How To Reset A Password On Boot
Certain laptops have a feature which requires a password immediately after the laptop is powered on (this should not be confused with a hard drive password, which is different). This password will not even allow you to enter the BIOS, it totally locks you out. If you have a laptop with such a password set, and you don't know or forgot it, then your only solution is to call the manufacturer and attempt to prove that you own the laptop and plead with them to reset it for how. There's apparently a master password or something like that.
Anyway, this link will show you how to get around all that. Take note that you do this at your own risk. It does work. We've seen it done to unlock a Dell Vostro 3700. While jumping the eepram chip (in this case labelled "MX-12G 25L3205DM2I" instead of "24C02") a the paperclip was rapidly tapping the connection at startup rather than being held there.
